Culture Night at The Ark
An incredible 1061 people came to experience Culture Night at The Ark on Friday 19th September, to wander through our award-winning building and take part in our free family events which ran throughout the evening.

Popular children's author Oliver Jeffers joined us for Paper Planery - a series of paper plane making and flying sessions. Some lucky children came away with sketches drawn by Oliver himself made during the readings of his new book The Great Paper Caper!, with others winning copies of his book for flying their planes the furthest! Oliver also signed copies of his books, illustrations and post cards during the workshops.

An explosive display of rhythm followed with acclaimed bodhran player and percussionist Robbie Harris performing with contemporary Irish dancer Mick Donegan in the theatre from 7pm. Even the audience got to play when drums were handed out at the end of the session!

These events proved to be hugely popular, with each 15 minute session packed out to full capacity, and everyone commenting on what fun they had...

"My children are still talking about their evening adventure at The Ark"

Don't worry if you missed it! Family Season 2008 starts this Saturday, 27 September, with two performances of The Wolf and the Goat at 2pm and 4pm, brought to you by The Ark and Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival.

Arkives on display as part of Culture Night
An exhibition of eight artworks from The Ark's visual arts collection, Arkives, is on display for Culture Night on 19 September.

The Archives were built up in the period 1995-2001. This collection, initiated by Martin Drury, Founder Director of The Ark, was specifically commissioned for children, through the centre's visual arts exhibition programme.

Inspired by a commitment to excite children about art, and by the belief that we should invite professional artists to make work for and with children, The Ark's collection Arkives was born.

Selected artwork on display for Culture Night on Friday 19 September only.
Oliver Jeffers comes to The Ark
Oliver Jeffers is coming to The Ark as part of Culture Night. He sent us this message to share with you!

"I'm at the airport on the way to Dublin now. I hope loads of you will come along to The Ark tonight for storytelling and paper plane making. I'll be drawing too, mainly from my new book The Great Paper Caper. It might be a bit chaotic but we'll have a laugh. See you there!"

Paper Planery with Oliver Jeffers: 5.30pm-7pm / Friday 19 September 2008
